KATHMANDU, MARCH 13

The CPN-Maoist Centre on Saturday decided to recall its ministers from Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli's Cabinet.

Among the ministers who have been asked to quit, are Minister of Home Affairs Ram Bahadur Thapa, Minister of Energy, Water Resources and Irrigation Top Bahadur Rayamajhi, Minister of Water Supply Mani Chandra Thapa, Minister of Urban Development Prabhu Sah, Minister of Youth and Sports Dawa Lama Tamang, and Minister of Labour, Employment and Social Security Gauri Shankar Chaudhary.

These ministers were formerly associated with the CPN-MC.

The decision to recall these ministers was taken by the Standing Committee meeting of the CPN-MC today. The CPN- MC move follows the CPN- UML's decision to induct 23 Maoist leaders, including these ministers, into the Central Committee of UML yesterday.

CPN-MC Spokesperson Narayan Kaji Shrestha said that his party had asked the 23 leaders who had been inducted into the CPN-UML yesterday to clarify within 24 hours whether they had deserted the mother party.

Former Attorney General Raman Kumar Shrestha said CPN- MC lawmakers or representatives who held public post could lose their posts if the CPN-MC removed them from the party.

This means that House of Representatives members Prabhu Sah, Top Bahadur Rayamajhi and Lekhraj Bhatta will lose their seats and the Election Commission will have to hold by-election in their constituencies.

Similar provisions will apply to provincial lawmakers and representatives of local governments.

Today's standing committee meeting of the Maoist Centre also decided to call its central committee meeting tomorrow.
