KATHMANDU, MARCH 19
Agni Prasad Kharel has tendered his resignation from the position of Attorney General of Nepal, on Friday.
Kharel was appointed to the post as the 26th Attorney General of the country by President Bidya Devi Bhandari on the recommendation of Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli on February 20, 2018.
Following his resignation, Kharel aims to return to active politics in the coming days, from which he was on a hiatus for the last three years to helm the office of the chief legal advisor to the Government of Nepal.
Kharel has claimed that he resigned in consultation with the Prime Minister and without any pressure.
Earlier also, there were rumours of AG Kharel resigning from his position when the Supreme Court's verdict on the House Dissolution case was awaited, saying that PM Oli was discontented over Kharel's handling of the case on behalf of the defence.
Meanwhile, Ramesh Badal has been recommended by the PM's office for the position of Attorney General.
