UPDATE: Municipality Mayor, medical team visit Dhuralsain school to diagnose ill students

Students in excess of 200 have fallen ill within a week in Dhuralsain Secondary School of Budhiganga Municipality-1 in Bajura district following which the mayor of the municipality and a medical team visited the school to study the situation, on Tuesday.

According to assistant health coordinator Hasta Kathayat, health checkup of more than 109 students were conducted on Tuesday. Swab samples of 14 students were sent to the Teku-based National Public Health Laboratory in Kathmandu for viral influenza testing, added Kathayat.

The health workers have suspected the outbreak to be seasonal cough and cold. A team of health workers comprising a doctor, an assistant health coordinator, a lab technician and two health assistants have been sent to the school.

Similarly, blood samples of the students too have been collected and dispatched for medical testing, informed the municipality. The authorities also stated that the nature of the illness can only be ascertained post the arrival of the lab results.

More than 200 students of Dhuralsain secondary school in Budhiganga Municipality-1 of Bajura district had fallen ill due to unknown cause(s) in the last five days.

According to health assistant Tara Kumari Khatri, who had visited the school to diagnose the students, symptoms including cough and cold, fever, vomiting, diarrhea and headache had been witnessed among the ailing students.
