THT impact: Bajura's Haliya family left in lurch receives financial assistance

The family of Sher Sarki and Kamala Sarki in Budhinanda Municipality-1 of Bajura district have received financial assistance following the publication of their story in The Himalayan Times.

Earlier, THT's regional correspondent Prakash Singh had reported on the situation of the Haliya family informing that all members of the family had fallen ill and as a result of which the family has been provided financial help.

Sher Sarki and his family members have been provided with food supplies and monetary help as well. Jangu Sherpa, who has successfully summitted Everest provided the needy family Rs 10,000 while central committee member of Nepali Congress (NC) Radhika Khadka and Sub Engineer's Association of Nepal (SEAN) made a contribution of Rs 5,000 each.

Sher shared that after the receiving financial aid, his family members are receiving treatment at the Primary Healthcare Centre and the local medical facility.

Eight-year-old Ishwora Sarki, Sher's daughter, is afflicted with kala-azar, and the other members are suffering from fever. Sher said he did not have money to buy medicines as all his family members had fallen ill. Sher and Kamala's sons Sasta and Eak are suffering from fever and stomach related ailment.

Ishwora is being treated in Kolti Primary Health Centre. Dr Raju Raj Jaisi at the health centre had said that Ishwora was suffering from Kaka-azar and other family members too were ill.

He added that the other family members did not test for Kala-azar.

Sher suffers from mental health issues and his wife has been running the family with her daily wages.

Another local, Man Bir Sarki, had said that the family had nothing to make ends meet. He had said that Sher has nothing except a small thatched hut. Sher had said he had taken his wife and sons to the health post for treatment, but brought them back as he did not have money to buy medicines.
