Strong wind and rainfall affects various parts of Nepal including Kathmandu Valley

Rain accompanied by strong wind, thunder and lightning were experienced across several parts of the country on Thursday. In continuity, many areas in the Kathmandu valley reported instances of hailstorm on Friday.

National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Authority has cautioned people to make necessary preparations beforehand to prevent destruction of lives and property after Thursday's strong winds and corresponding adverse weather reportedly caused damages at various places.

According to the bulletin shared by NDRRMA, lightning has killed as many as three people and injured four others in last 24 hours, in among six of such incidents. The deceased are from Bhojpur, Tehrathum, and Baglung while the two injured are from Tehrathum and one easch from Taplejung and Baglung.

Meteorological Forecasting Division shared that the weather system causing rain and thunderstorm and lightning is developing around the south-west region of the country and is gradually shifting towards north-east.

As per the weather bulletin shared by the division, weather will be partly to generally cloudy in Province 1 and Sudur Pashchim Province and mainly fair in rest of the country tonight. Light rain or thunder and lightning are likely to continue at one or two places of Province 1 and Sudur Pashchim Province and the hilly regions of the country.

Highest accumulated rainfall within the period of last one hour is seen at Godavari station of Bagmati Basin. It has accumulated 2.8 mm of rain in one hour, and 8.8 mm in last 24 hours.

At the Khumaltar station of Bagmati Basin, the accumulated rainfall within last three hours is 18.4; within 24 hours is 18.6 mm. The last one hour accumulation is only two mm.

Similarly, the highest accumulated rainfall within last 24 hours is being observed at Pakhribas of Koshi Basin with 39.4 mm, Letang of Koshi/Churiya Basin 32.8 mm, Dhankuta_AWS of Koshi 31.73 mm, Dhankuta of Koshi Basin 31.6 mm, Galkot of Narayani Basin 29 mm. All of these accumulations are below warning level.
