COVID cases on the rise in Jhapa

COVID cases are increasing on a daily basis in Jhapa of late. Nineteen people, including seven females, tested positive for the virus today, according to Jhapa District Health Office.

Twelve persons tested positive for the contagion yesterday. Eight persons entering Nepal through the eastern border-point tested positive for virus antigen. All of them had come from New Delhi, said DSP Sunil Dahal of Kakadbhitta Area Police Office.

With the spread of coronavirus in India, the number of migrant workers returning to Nepal has gone up. More than 1,000 people are entering Nepal via Nepal-India border points on a daily basis. 'We have allowed migrant workers to return after medical check-up and stopped Indians from coming to the Nepali side except for emergency,' said DSP Dahal.

According to Jhapa Health Office focal persons Jivan Chaulagain, the active COVID caseload has reached 62 in Jhapa. So far, 4,679 have tested positive for the virus while 129 have succumbed to the contagion.
