KATHMANDU, APRIL 26

A no-trust motion against Gandaki Chief Minister Prithvi Subba Gurung was tabled in the Gandaki Provincial Assembly today.

Nepali Congress lawmaker Krishna Chandra Nepali Pokharel, the opposition's candidate for chief minister, tabled the motion on the first day of the special session of the assembly.

Twenty-eight lawmakers - 15 from the NC, 11 from the CPN- MC, and two from the Janata Samajbadi Party-Nepal - had registered the no-trust motion against the Gurung-led government on April 16. The opposition had sought a special session of the Provincial Assembly to dwell on the no-trust motion, as the PA was prorogued last night.

Pokharel said he and other lawmakers brought the no-trust motion against Gurung as he had aided Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli's 'unconstitutional and regressive' move dissolving the House of Representatives.

He said Subba failed to mobilise the allocated budget for the province and he had also failed on the development front.

UML lawmaker Roshan Bahadur Gaha Thapa said since other parties were envious of the development work being carried out by the provincial government, they brought the no-trust motion against the provincial government.

The meeting of the PA was postponed for 12:15 pm tomorrow.

Lawmakers will again take part in the no-trust motion debate tomorrow.

In the 60-member PA, UML has 27 members and has the support of one independent member – Dipak Manange. To win the no-trust motion, Gurung will need the support of another party.
