Infections in Kathmandu Valley soars with nearly 4,000 cases recorded on Thursday

KATHMANDU, MAY 6
Kathmandu Valley observed a record high coronavirus infection count with cases nearing 4,000 on Thursday.
With the capital city recording 3,163 infections, Lalitpur 567 cases, and Bhaktapur recording 242 cases, the total cases in the valley summed up to 3,972.
This is 44.28 per cent of the total cases observed today. There were as many as 8,970 infections recorded today across the country.
Kathmandu district has the highest number of infections recorded today. Second in line is Rupandehi with 1,069 infections logged in last 24 hours, while Lalitpur stands third.
Total active cases in Kathmandu is 24,533 as of today, that in Lalitpur is 4,974, and in Bhaktapur is 2,945.
Kathmandu has recorded 136,467 total infections until today. The same in Lalitpur is 22,653 and in Bhaktapur is 12,871.
The valley recorded as many as 10 Covid-related fatalities today -- five in Kathmandu, four in Lalitpur, and one in Bhaktapur. As such the total deaths in Kathmandu till date is 808, that in Lalitpur is 230, and in Bhaktapur is 166.
Country itself recorded 54 Covid-related fatalities today, which totals to 3,529 deaths till date. The death rate (total deaths by total positive cases) as of today is 0.96 per cent.
As many as 20 districts hold active cases above 500 -- those are Morang, Sunsari, Jhapa, Dhanusha, Parsa, Kathmandu, Lalitpur, Bhaktapur, Chitwan, Kavrepanlanchowk, Makawanpur, Kaski, Dang, Banke, Rupandehi, Palpa, Bardiya, Kapilvastu, Surkhet and Kailali.
Seventeen districts hold active cases above 200. They are Bara, Rautahat, Mahottari, Nuwakot, Dhading, Sindhupalchowk, Sindhuli, Gorkha, Nawalparasi(East), Tanahun, Nawalparasi (West), Arghakhanchi , Gulmi, Kanchanpur, Baitadi, Dadheldhura and Doti.
