KATHMANDU, MAY 22
The Standing Committee meeting of ruling CPN-UML has decided to seek clarification from 11 of its lawmakers that had endorsed Sher Bahadur Deuba's claim to premiership on Friday.
Senior leaders of the party Madhav Kumar Nepal, Jhalanath Khanal, among others would be asked by the party to furnish an explanation for their action.
Nepal-Khanal faction had submitted signatures of 26 lawmakers along with the signatures of Nepali Congress, CPN Maoist Centre and Upendra Yadav faction of Janata Samajbadi Party-Nepal to the President, backing up Sher Bahadur Deuba's candidacy against their own party chief.
However, the clarification is only being sought from around a dozen leaders as the other 15 have, apparently, clarified to the party that their signatures had been misused as they had not made any commitment to forward Deuba's claim.
