KATHMANDU, MAY 30

Nepal reported 3,702 new Covid-19 cases in the past 24 hours, a notable decrease from the previous day's count wherein 4311 infections were logged.

This is the lowest figure recorded in Nepal since May 1.

The single daily cases rose as high as 9317 on May 11 and remained around 8-9000 for a significant amount of time.

A gradual decline in cases is being observed since May 26 where 6677 cases had surfaced as against the 8387 cases reported on May 25.

However, it can also be noted that the number of daily PCR tests conducted has decreased significantly in the past few days. Only 10,986 PCR tests were carried out in the past day of which the aforementioned 3702 tested positive.

Nepal has till now recorded a total of 557,124 Covid cases and 7,272 deaths since the initial outbreak in the early months of 2020. As many as 109 fatalities were reported on Sunday.

Around 6,205 patients have recovered from the disease in the last 24 hours taking the total number of recoveries to 440,955. With fresh recoveries slightly more than the new infections of late, the active Covid-19 case count currently stands at 108,897.

Meanwhile, antigen tests confirmed 667 positive cases in the past 24 hours. As such, total infections from both the RT-PCR and antigen tests added up to 4,369 today.

There are 763 individuals in various quarantine facilities across Nepal. So far, 79.2 per cent of COVID patients have recovered in Nepal.

In the same time frame, 804 infections were reported in the capital city on Saturday while Lalitpur and Bhaktapur reported 176 and 113 cases respectively.

On Saturday, Nepal's coronavirus case count reached 553,422 with 4,311 newly confirmed cases.

According to the health ministry, 12,770 total tests were conducted in the last 24 hours, of which 10,986 were PCR tests while 1,784 were antigen tests. With this, a total of 3,042,369 PCR tests have been carried out in Nepal till date.

Globally, over 170 million people have been infected by the novel coronavirus while 3.5 million people have lost their lives to the disease.

Likewise, over 152 million people have recovered while more than 14 million cases are still active.
