Finance Minister Bishnu Paudel has expressed commitment to effectively implement the budget for the next fiscal year, which begins in mid-July.

Addressing a post-budget discussion today, the finance minister said that though some sceptics are claiming about huge challenges in implementing the budget, 'we are committed to implement this budget'.

The government yesterday unveiled a budget of Rs 1,647.57 billion for fiscal year 2021-22.

The finance minister sought to dismiss concerns about the size of the budget, which is 11.73 per cent bigger than the budget of Rs 1,474.64 billion announced for the current fiscal year.

Stating that the budget for the next fiscal is primarily focused on combating the coronavirus pandemic, ensuring inoculation of all residents, as well as recovery and revival of the battered economy, he termed the budget for next fiscal as 'extremely contextual'.

At the press briefing today, Minister Paudel said the Ministry of Finance will be holding consultations with other ministries as well as concerned authorities in the near future to ensure practical and effective implementation of the budget.

Further assuring that sufficient budget has been alloted for the elections, Minister Paudel argued there was no option to forming a new government as the House of Representatives (HoR) has been dissolved.

He also claimed that the budget had been welcomed from most quarters.
