DHANGADHI, JUNE 6
Women from the Badi community have submitted a manifesto to the Chief Minister of Sudurpaschim province demanding license for sex work amid struggles to sustain livelihood.
The women lamented that the government had not been taking their demands seriously, leaving them in lurch, and hence demanded Chief Minister Trilochan Bhatta to provide them state granted license for engaging in sex-work.
The members of the Badi community who dwell across different districts of the Sudurpaschim Province have been living hand to mouth. Former Executive Director of the Utthan Bikash Badi Samaj stated that although the government had failed to deliver on its promises, if it were to legitimise sex-work, that would help the community members to provide for themselves.
Similarly, the women have also demanded that the government address the community's nutritional needs, free education and inclusion during admission for youth, in the manifesto.
The women warned that if the demands are not paid heed to, they would take to the streets to demonstrate to make their demands heard.
