Rainfall expected through most of coming week

KATHMANDU, JUNE 25

Meteorological Forecasting Division has said the weather across the country will be generally to mostly cloudy today.

Nepal is currently observing the effect of monsoon winds and the monsoon trough lies at the southern region at present.

Weather today will likely be lightly to moderately rainy at some places of Province 1, Province 2, Bagmati, Gandaki and Lumbini Provinces and at a few places of Karnali and Sudur Pashchim Provinces. There are chances of heavy rain with thunder and lightning at one or two places of Province 1 and Bagmati Province.

In a weekly bulletin issued today, the Division informed that most days of this week will be generally to mostly cloudy in Province 1, 2, Bagmati and Gandaki Provinces and partially cloudy in Lumbini, Karnali and Sudur Pashchim Provinces, given that the week, as per the 'weather calendar' begins Friday.

Few places of Province 1, 2, Bagmati and Gandaki Provinces will receive light to moderate rainfall accompanied by thunder and lightning till Tuesday.

Later this week on Wednesday and Thursday, there are chances of heavy rainfall in most places of the aforementioned regions.

Similarly, Lumbini, Karnali and Sudur Pashchim Provinces will receive light rainfall till Tuesday and may receive moderate rain on Wednesday and Thursday.

Meanwhile, the high hilly and mountainous region may witness light to moderate snowfall this week.

On the other hand, the Flood Forecasting Division has issued a notice stating the possibility of flash floods due to heavy rainfall in Kankai, Koshi, Kamala, Bagmati Rivers and rivulets.

Moreover, Nawalpur-based station has measured significant rise in water level in Arun River, hence, the Division has urged everyone in the risk-prone areas to remain in high alert and take necessary precautions.
