KATHMANDU, NOVEMBER 5

Minister for Energy, Water Resources, and Irrigation Deepak Khadka has urged his Indian counterpart to finalize the Detailed Project Report (DPR) for the Pancheshwar Multipurpose Project (PMP) as soon as possible.

In a meeting with Indian Union Minister for Jal Shakti, CR Patil, today in New Delhi, Minister Khadka made this request.

During the meeting, the two discussed a wide range of pertinent issues, including the prompt implementation of the PMP, collaboration on disaster risk reduction, human resource development, and other matters of mutual interest and concern, as stated by Minister Khadka's Secretariat.

Minister Khadka is currently in the Indian capital to participate in the 7th Assembly of the International Solar Alliance.

During their discussions, Minister Khadka expressed his gratitude to the Government of India for the timely completion of the canal extending from Tanakpur in Nepal to the Indian border. He also assured that he would convene a meeting of the joint committee on flood and disaster management between Nepal and India soon.

Minister Patil responded positively, affirming the need to accelerate the DPR process for the PMP, a bi-national hydropower project to be developed on the Mahakali River, which forms the border between Nepal and India, according to Minister Khadka's Secretariat.
