Election Commission releases schedule for November elections

Until and unless the Supreme Court (SC) reinstates the Lower House for further proceedings, the country will witness the snap polls on November 12 and 19

KATHMANDU, JULY 5

The Election Commission of Nepal has released a schedule for the November snap-polls announced by the government after dissolution of House of Representatives.

In a press release issued by the poll body on Monday, it informed that the first phase of the general elections will be held on 12th November, 2021 while the second phase of the election has been scheduled for 19th November, 2021.

Furthermore, it has been learnt that the registration of the political parties at the commission, a prerequisite for participating in the polls, will commence on July 15 and last till July 30.

The constitutional body responsible for conducting and monitoring elections in Nepal, has stated that the final voter identification list will be published on September 8, 2021.

In the same manner, EC informed that election process for proportional representation will take place from June 16- October 19.

Earlier in May, Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli had dissolved the elected House of Representatives, a contentious political move, a Supreme Court hearing on writs filed against which concluded today. A verdict on the case is expected to be issued on July 12.
