KATHMANDU: The government has decided to purchase the under-invoiced vehicles that have been held at Birgunj Customs Office from the last five months. The Ministry of Finance took the decision to this effect after the plan of levying duty from the customs office as per the recommended price of Nepal Automobiles' Dealer's Association (NADA) — organisation of vehicles entrepreneurs — was not successful. The decision to levy duty on the vehicles as per the NADA's recommendation has been halted by the Supreme Court as well. 'There is no alternative than to follow the court ruling,' said a high-ranking official of the revenue administration. 'Now, the government will purchase them.' Twenty Tucson GL (Hyundai) imported from Korea and eight Land Rover SUVs imported from the UK have been stranded in Birgunj Customs Office as their price was shown lesser than the purchase price.
