PM Sher Bahadur Deuba wins trust vote in House of Representatives, secures 165 votes

Few lawmaker's from Oli-camp seen voting for Deuba too

KATHMANDU, JULY 18

Prime Minister Sher Bahadur Deuba on Sunday won a trust vote in the House of Representatives.

Deuba secured 165 votes in his favour while 83 votes were cast against him. Likewise,in the process, one lawmaker remained neutral.

As many as 249 lawmakers had participated in the voting process.

​​​​​​Lawmakers of Nepali Congress, CPN Maoist Centre and Janata Samajbadi Party-Nepal had cast their votes in Deuba's favour. The Thakur-Mahato faction of the JSP-N decided to give their votes to Deuba at the last hour.

Meanwhile, lawmakers from dissident faction of the UML too were divided in this regard wherein close to a dozen MPs decided to leave the House after it was noted that Deuba would manage to pull majority of votes to his side without the Nepal faction. However, the remaining lawmakers, including Madhav Kumar Nepal himself, had given their trust vote to Deuba.

In a surprising twist of events, as many as 8 lawmakers from Oli faction were also seen in the voting line in Deuba's favour. All in all, around 22 lawmakers from the opposition party defied the party whip to vote against Deuba.

UML senior leader Bhim Rawal had announced his resignation prior to the beginning of the House session today.

With Deuba's win, the continuity of the twice dissolved House of Representatives for the remaining duration has been ensured.
