One dead, one missing in Rautahat jeep accident

A woman died on the spot and another woman went missing after a Bolero Jeep fell 15 metres off the road into the canal of the Bagmati Irrigation Project at Chandrapur Municipality in Rautahat on Monday.

A woman died on the spot and another woman went missing after a Bolero Jeep fell 15 metres off the road into the canal of the Bagmati Irrigation Project at Chandrapur Municipality in Rautahat today.

The deceased has been identified as Mina Devi Koiri, 45, of Gadhimai Municipality, Bara. Police said Sunari Devi Mukhiya, 65, of Bodhiban Municipality, Bara has gone missing.

The accident occurred when the jeep was heading towards Mahadev temple with devotees to offer holy water on the fourth Monday of Shrawan. The jeep fell into the channel after the driver lost control, said police.

According to Chandrapur Area Police Office, the accident occurred because the vehicle was loaded beyond its capacity. Locals and security personnel rescued eighteen devotees immediately after the accident.

Of them, 13 people including the jeep driver Anil Sharma, 23, of Kolvi Municipality, Bara are receiving treatment in Model Hospital, Bagmati Municipality, Sarlahi, said police.
