RAUTAHAT, JULY 25

Police arrested a person for his involvement in extorting money from businessmen in the name of Tarai Janamukti Morcha, in Garuda Municipality, Rautahat, today.

The arrested has been identified as Ladai Raya Yadav, 27, of the municipality.

Police said a case was filed against Yadav, who was found involved in kidnapping, murder and bomb explosion, among other criminal activities. Police said Yadav, along with others, had established an underground outfit - Tarai Janamukti Morcha - with the aim of collecting money through extortion.

The party demanded donation from businessmen and industry owners of Garuda areas, said police.

Police said businessmen and industry owners were afraid as the activists would plant bombs if they did not get the demanded amount.

SP Siddhi Bikram Shah at District Police Office, Rautahat, said Raya Yadav was taken under control after investigation.

At a press meet organised at District Police Office, Rautahat, today, SP Shah informed that Coordinator of Tarai Janamukti Morcha Birendra Yadav had called an entrepreneur and demanded Rs twenty lakh. He added that the police team held Raya Yadav when he reached the spot to take the amount from the entrepreneur.

It was revealed through the investigation that Birendra was the mastermind and four others were his accomplices.
