KATHMANDU, AUGUST 14

CPN-Maoist Centre Chair Pushpa Kamal Dahal presented a political report at the party's Central Committee proposing to keep the left-democratic alliance intact till the next general elections.

CPN-MC Central Committee member Ganesh Shah told THT Dahal told the Central Committee meeting that the threat of regression against the federal, democratic republican constitution still existed, hence, the left-democratic alliance that fought against regression should continue to collaborate.

CPN-MC and the ruling party alliance had termed former prime minister KP Sharma Oli's move dissolving the House of Representatives 'regressive' and fought political and legal battle against it.

CPN-MC Spokesperson Narayan Kaji Shrestha told mediapersons after the Central Committee meeting that Dahal told the meeting the left-democratic alliance should be maintained as long as the country faced the threat of regression.

Dahal said he had unified the party with the CPN-UML with the aim of creating conducive environment for achieving the goals of socialism, but the then party co-chair KP Sharma Oli had acted regressively and dissolved the House of Representatives with the help of the president.

Dahal also said that Oli's move divided the communist movement, but CPN- MC should continue to build a front of communist forces to achieve the goals of social justice. Dahal also said that his party would also try to keep the left-democratic alliance intact.

According to CPN-MC Central Committee member Shiv Kumar Mandal, Dahal told the meeting his party would emerge as the largest communist force after the next general elections as it was an agent of change.

Dahal also proposed to hold the party's national conference from December 26 to 28, which could also elect central office bearers.

Dahal proposed to hold the national conference after concluding local level and provincial conventions.

Mandal said that the Central Committee was discussing amendment to the party statute and if the amendment was made mandating the national conference to elect party office bearers, the next national conference could elect the new office bearers.

The meeting will continue tomorrow.
