KATHMANDU, JUNE 30

CPN-UML's general convention organising committee today decided to change its status into the party's central committee.

"A meeting of the General Convention Committee also decided to scrap its punitive actions against the rival faction's leaders," said CPN-UML Spokesperson Pradeep Kumar Gyawali after the meeting of the party's top committee here today.

Earlier, the establishment faction led by the party chair and Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli had expelled some leaders of the rival faction, including Madhav Kumar Nepal, from the party for indulging in anti-party activities.

The rival faction has been supporting Nepali Congress President Sher Bahadur Deuba's bid for prime ministership. The rival faction leaders have also challenged the HoR dissolution in the Supreme Court.

Gyawali said the meet had decided to induct Ram Bahadur Thapa, Top Bahadur Raymajhi, Mani Chandra Thapa, Bishu Rimal, Raghuvir Mahaseth, Raghuji Panta and Beduram Bhusal into the party's Standing Committee.

Gyawali further said the party had decided to revive party committees that existed before the UML's merger with the CPN-MC.
