Mishra to replace Ahiraj as Province 2 guv

The Cabinet on Monday recommended to the president to remove Province 2 Governor Rajesh Ahiraj and appoint Hari Shankar Mishra to replace him.

The Cabinet today recommended to the president to remove Province 2 Governor Rajesh Ahiraj and appoint Hari Shankar Mishra to replace him.

Prime Minister Sher Bahadur Deuba's Personal Secretary Bhanu Deuba told THT that Mishra would be officially appointed and sworn in by the president tomorrow.

The KP Sharma Oli government had appointed Rajesh Ahiraj as the Province 2 Governor on February 19.

Mishra, 76, is the son of freedom fighter and Nepali Congress leader late Ram Narayan Mishra who was a minister in the first democratically elected government led by legendary NC leader late BP Koirala.

Newly appointed Governor Mishra comes from Pipra village of Mahottari district.

Hari Shankar Mishra had won the parliamentary seat from Mahottari-3 in the first general election held after the restoration of democracy in 1990.

Mishra, who was first jailed in 1960 at the age of 14 for hoisting the flag of Nepali Congress in Mahottari, went to jail seven times during the Panchayat regime.
