KATHMANDU, AUGUST 17

The National Human Rights Commission has urged the government to save the lives of Nepalis stranded in Afghanistan and keep accurate records of those waiting for help.

The constitutional body, issuing a press release today, asked the government to save the lives of those Nepalis who had reached Afghanistan without proper legal documents or whose visas had expired.

'We have information that many Nepalis have not been able to feed themselves and are having difficulty getting shelter. Even those with proper work permits have started facing hardship. In this scenario, it is the government's duty to save the lives of its citizens at all cost,' the press release reads.

The NHRC, after holding talks with officials of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, said the government did not have any record of the exact number of Nepalis working in Afghanistan because Nepal currently does not issue work permits for Afghanistan.

Many Nepalis, however, often reach there via third countries to work as security personnel for better salary.
