RAUTAHAT, AUGUST 27

Authorities in Rautahat have asked residents on river fronts to stay alert in view of the incessant rainfall for the past few days.

As it's raining heavily in the plains and the churiya and the mountainous ranges, the same has left rivers such as the Bagmati and Lalbakaiya raging. It is in view of the possible risk for people living on the banks of the rivers that the district administration has asked them to be alert.

The administration's call to people to stay alert comes in the wake of the water level in the Bagmati River crossing the danger mark at Karmaiya Water Level Measurement Centre of Padheradobhan.

'People, especially those living on the river fronts, have to be careful as heavy rainfall has pushed water levels in the Bagmati, Lalbakaiya, Chadi, Jhanjh, Bhakuwa, Tarahari and other rivers and streams,' said Chief District Officer Indradev Yadav, adding that security personnel were ready in the event of the need to carry out rescue operation.

Meanwhile, the overflowing Jhanjha River has brought woes to farmers here who have seen their paddy fields submerged in flood water. Such is the case in places such as Pacharukhi, Chhatauna, Badaharwa, Pipara, Saruatha and Bhediyahi.

Similarly, excessive rainfall has damaged a few homes in Durga Bhagawati Rural Municipality.

Property worth over Six lakh rupees is said to have been destroyed after houses collapsed in Ward 3 of Durga Bhagawati Rural Municipality.
