Resolution-making spree
Resolution-making spree

It seems we’re not going to change despite the passage of one year to make way for the New Year. It’s the sixth day of the New Year 2010 that was ushered in with so much of a gusto that even today one feels short of breath to go around the daily errands which have all piled up beyond one’s own recognition. Yes, that 31st night surely rides on the head to make it go spinning and the momentum is taking some time to become static. Don’t get the wrong notion of the fire water crossing the threshold. It’s just that dizzy feeling of seeing the midnight of the last day of 2009 transform into the first day of the New Year 2010. For anyone to have gone through the experience will know for sure how it impairs the regular functioning of even a down-to-earth person. Dining aspect apart for welcoming the new year, the wining part too seems to receive more than the usual attention. Of course, as is our wont there is always that search for the excuse to jumpstart on opening one bottle after another or get to undoing the corks. However, even with that the spirit tends to be high — mind you, there are teetotalers as well. The biggest joke for the turn of the year is the who’s who in the resolution making game. There are the usual ones that harp on the same theme every year without in anyway adhering to it. And this is the very reason why the same resolutions, perhaps with a bit of modification, are made at the stroke of midnight that signals the arrival of the new year. Yet, there is some amount of chivalry in making a declaration with the comrades in arms raptly listening. Well, in fact, the whole things is taken as a “who cares” attitude as long as the party rumbles towards the climax with many of the participants on a high note all because of the free flowing alcoholic bonanza. The predictable commitments revolve around the same “NO” to booze, smoking, extravagance, vanity, prejudice, etc. However, the encouraging part of the whole resolution making game is that you’re back to where you were and the satisfaction that you don’t have to chart unknown waters. The whole fun of welcoming the New Year, besides the appetizers and the gastronomical delights, is the opportune time to throw in a few personal resolutions just for the sake of maintaining the decorum, and nothing more.
