KATHMANDU, MARCH 12

The Government of Japan has pledged financial assistance for the construction of classrooms at Shree Satyavadi Higher Secondary School in Bajhang district.

Japanese Ambassador to Nepal Maeda Toru signed a grant contract worth USD 129,665 (approximately Rs 18.6 million) with Dhana Lama, executive director of the United Mission to Nepal Medical and Development Trust (UMNMDT), at the Embassy of Japan in Kathmandu on Wednesday.

The project is funded under Japan's Grant Assistance for Grassroots Human Security Projects (GGP) programme and will support the construction of a two-storey building with eight classrooms at the school.

Established in 1906, Shree Satyavadi Higher Secondary School serves around 1,700 students from Bajhang and neighbouring districts. The school was severely affected by the October 2023 earthquake and has been facing a shortage of classrooms.

The embassy said the project aims to provide a safer and more effective learning environment for students and teachers while supporting post-earthquake recovery in the area.

The assistance comes as Japan and Nepal mark the 70th anniversary of diplomatic relations this year, the embassy added.
