KATHMANDU, FEBRUARY 24
The Government of Japan has provided financial support of Rs 397.5 million to Nepal for the upcoming House of Representatives general election scheduled for March 5, the Embassy of Japan in Nepal said on Tuesday.
According to the Embassy, the assistance is being mobilised through counterpart funds generated under Japan's Food Assistance Projects. The allocated amount will be used for updating election management software, training election officials and conducting voter education programmes to ensure the smooth conduct of the polls.
The Embassy stated that the support demonstrates Japan's continued commitment to strengthening Nepal's democratic institutions and electoral processes. It noted that this year marks the 70th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between Japan and Nepal, highlighting seven decades of bilateral cooperation and friendship.
Japan and Nepal have maintained close and cordial ties through development cooperation and mutual partnership in various sectors. The Embassy expressed confidence that continued collaboration, including support for Nepal's electoral process, would further deepen relations between the two countries.
