KATHMANDU, FEBRUARY 24

Nepal recorded 498 disaster incidents across the country in the month of Magh for the fiscal year 2082/083, resulting in 22 deaths and 103 injuries, according to the Nepal Police.

Of the deceased, eight were men, 13 women, and one girl. Among the injured, 35 were men, 52 women, eight boys, and eight girls.

The disasters also displaced 153 people and required the mobilisation of 2,707 police personnel for emergency response. Physical damage included the destruction of 64 houses and 62 sheds, while 252 livestock were lost. No government offices were reported damaged. The estimated financial loss from these incidents reached Rs 12,73,89,800.

Province-wise distribution of the 498 incidents showed Koshi Province with the highest number at 115, followed closely by Madhesh Province with 113 incidents. Lumbini Province recorded 63 incidents, Gandaki Province 53, Sudurpashchim Province 48, Karnali Province 42, Bagmati Province 37, and Kathmandu Valley 27.

Nepal Police noted that the reported disasters include fire, floods, landslides, lightning strikes, animal attacks, epidemics, windstorms, snowfall, avalanches, cold waves, heavy rainfall, boat accidents, altitude sickness, earthquakes, snake bites and other related events.
