KATHMANDU, FEBRUARY 22

The Election Commission (EC) has recommended that the government declare a three-day public holiday for the upcoming House of Representatives (HoR) election.

The Commission has urged the government to grant public holidays from March 4 to 6.

Joint Secretary and Spokesperson at the EC, Narayan Prasad Bhattarai, informed that the government had been advised to declare holidays for three consecutive days - the day before the election, the election day (March 5), and the day after.

Bhattarai argued that public holidays have already been announced for the Holi festival on March 2 in the hilly and mountainous regions and on March 3 in the Tarai/Madhes region.

Therefore, declaring a public holiday on March 4, a day prior to voting, would facilitate people from various professions, particularly those residing in distant areas, in reaching their respective polling stations with greater convenience, he added.
