Four killed, 14 injured in Okhaldhunga jeep accident

Four persons died while 14 others sustained injuries after the jeep that was ferrying pilgrims crashed off the road in Sunkoshi Rural Municipality-9 of Okhaldhunga district on Monday morning.

Four persons died while 14 others sustained injuries after the jeep that was ferrying pilgrims crashed off the road in Sunkoshi Rural Municipality-9 of Okhaldhunga district on Monday morning.

Mithumaya Magar (35) of Siddhicharan Municipality-10, Tulsa Magar (17), and Khagedra Magar of Siddhicharan Municipality-10, as well as another who is yet to be identified, were among the deceased, according to police.

The incident occurred when a jeep (Province no. 3 01022 Cha 9694) en route to Champadevi Kakani Temple lost control and went off the road, falling 600 meters down in Sikari Danda, informed Chief of District Police Office Govinda Kafle.

The critically injured have been evacuated in a helicopter to Kathmandu for treatment, according to Sunkoshi-9 ward chair Jhanak Kumar Karki. Other injured people are being treated at Okhaldunga Community Hospital.

According to Okhaldhunga police chief Kafle, there were 18 people in the jeep at the time of the accident.

Following the incident, police and villagers had quickly launched a rescue effort.

The jeep was ferrying revellers to Kakani Temple during Ekadashi Mela.
