Province 1 CM wins trust vote

DHARAN, NOVEMBER 17

Province 1 Chief Minister Rajendra Rai has won the vote of confidence. He won the confidence vote in the Provincial Assembly here today, as per the constitution.

Of the 92 PA members, 79 were present at the voting today, excluding the speaker.

While Rai received 50 votes in his favour, 25 votes were cast against him. Twenty-one Nepali Congress, 15 CPN-MC, 10 CPN-Unified Socialist, three Janata Samajbadi Party, and one Federal Democratic National Forum PA members voted for Rai.

CPN-US parliamentary party leader in the Provincial Assembly, Rai was appointed chief minister on November 2.

Before facing the vote today, he had asked for support, pledging he would work by taking the opposition in confidence.

Of the total existing 39 UML PA members, 10 were absent in the PA meeting today.

Though the total number of UML PA members is 41, one UML PA member is at large, the PA speaker is also from the UML party.

After then CM Bhim Acharya resigned from the post, the opposition alliance had forwarded CPN-US parliamentary party leader Rai as CM candidate.
