Six killed, one critically injured in Baitadi jeep accident

Six persons died while one other sustained critical injuries after the jeep they were travelling on skidded off the road in Dasharathchand Municipality-4 of Baitadi district on Sunday night.

Six persons died while one other sustained critical injuries after the jeep they were travelling on skidded off the road in Dasharathchand Municipality-4 of Baitadi district on Sunday night.

The jeep was ferrying groom's procession.

The deceased have been identified as Rajendra Bahadur Chand (48), Dhan Bahadur Chand (38), Prem Bahadur Chand (65), Tara Singh Thapa (65), Khem Singh Karki (58), all of Dasharathchand-6 and jeep driver Dipak Mali (40) of Dadeldhura, informed Police Inspector Darshan Khadka, Spokesperson at Distict Police Office, Baitadi.

According to police, the incident occurred when the jeep (Ma 1 Ja 310), en route to Simayal of Dasharathchand-6 from Dehimandau of Dasarathchand-2,lost control and skidded off the road and fell some 700 below at Kaluwad turning along the Gothalapani-Jhulaghat road section of Dasharathchand Highway at 8:30 pm last night, killing five on the spot and critically injuring two.

Critically injured jeep driver Mali succumbed to his injuries as he was being transported to to the hospital, added police.

Meanwhile, another critically injured Harka Bahadur Chand (48) of Dasharathchand-6 has been referred to Dhangadhi for further treatment.

Although over speeding has been suspected as a factor incident, the exact cause is yet to be ascertained.
