BAJURA, DECEMBER 23

A multipurpose covered hall, whose construction started six years ago in Martadi of Bajura, has still not been completed, leaving the project in limbo.

The then CPN-UML vice chairman Bhim Rawal had laid the foundation stone on 23 April 2016. The party's standing committee member Karna Bahadur Thapa had taken the charge of the construction work.

The hall is under the Sports Development Committee of the province government.

Bal Bahadur Rokaya, a local, said construction work could not gain momentum due to negligence of all three levels of government. Construction work had started with the aim of promoting sports and motivating youths towards sports.

The federal and Local governments spent Rs one crore and 65 lakh on the construction.

Today the covered hall, roofed with zinc sheets, looks dilapidated.

Bajura District Sports Development Committee Chairman Rakesh Thapa said construction of the covered hall had been left in the lurch due to lack of money. He said that the place could have been transformed with the amount released by the province government. He said that the province government had offered Rs two crore for the same.

The players had requested the authority concerned for a playground as the district headquarters lacked even a simple playground. The locals said construction work could not move ahead due to negligence on the part of contractors, sports development committee, the then technical office and the municipality.
