The body of 50-year-old Bhutani Devi Yadav was found in a local gorge at Barahi Birpur of Chhinnamasta Rural Municipality, Saptari, this morning.

Police said Yadav was murdered and her body thrown into the local stream near her home. A preliminary investigation showed that Yadav was hit with a beer bottle on her head and killed, said DSP Madhav Prasad Kafle. Police have launched a manhunt to nab those involved in the incident.

Police have seized two broken and one intact beer bottles from the incident site. Police surmised that the woman might have been killed between 6:00pm to 10:00pm last night.

According to the deceased's husband Jawahir Yadav, his wife had left the home at 5:00pm for the field. Since Bhutani Devi did not return till 10:00pm, they had gone out to search for her. The body was found at 5:00am today.

Police said that the woman might have been killed with the wrong motive.

'But, only the post-mortem report will bring out whether or not the woman was raped before she was killed,' a policeman said.
