Following the successful completion of the first National Level Inter-High School Mathematics Quiz, Mathematics Council, Kathmandu University High School, KUHS, has invited all the high schools in Nepal to participate in the second national level mathematics quiz, 2005.
The aims and objectives of the quiz are to select and encourage the young mathematician from all over Nepal and make learning mathematics fun, besides bridging the widening gap between learning at the government and private schools and fostering a healthy friendship among students in Nepal and abroad. KUHS also hopes that this exercise will help build a team of young mathematicians to represent Nepal in international mathematics programmes and math Olympiads
Mathematics Council has a history of past accomplishments including organising the Kavre district level mathematics quiz among secondary schools, a teachers’ interaction seminar where math teachers of most schools participated and publication of a monthly math journal.
Two students (one boy and one girl except for non co-educational schools) will represent each school. There is no registration fee. The Himalayan Times is the official media of the event.
The preliminary rounds for selection of participants has already been held from February 25 to March 12. The quarterfinal, semifinal and final will take place at KUHS campus from 27 to 29 May. The winner of all the centres must arrive at KUHS on 26 May to compete for the final.
The winner of the first prize gets a cash award of N Rs 25,000 with the trophy, souvenirs and certificates, the second prize has a cash award of N Rs 15,000, the third prize N Rs 10,000 and there is a consolation prize of N Rs 5,000 with trophies, souvenirs and certificates. Quarter and semifinalists will also be given attractive souvenirs and prizes. The winner of The National Mathematics Quiz will represent Nepal in the International Mathematics Quiz in November 2005.
