KATHMANDU, FEBRUARY 17
The District Administration Office, Kathmandu, has authorized the Nepal Police to detain medical entrepreneur Durga Prasai for an additional four days.
Prasai, who also serves as the coordinator of the Nationality, Religion, and Citizen Protection Campaign, was arrested from his Bhaktapur residence on Monday and presented before the court on Tuesday.
Superintendent of Police Pawan Kumar Bhattarai stated that Prasai is being held on charges of spreading misleading information related to the election, which constitutes a crime against public peace. His detention has been extended to allow further investigation, Bhattarai added.
The controversial medical entrepreneur had allegedly made baseless claims that the House of Representatives election could not be held on March 5. Prasai has been arrested multiple times in the past for similar unfounded statements.
Earlier, he was taken into custody from Dakshinkali while en route to Birgunj, though he was released subsequently.
