8730 single-day infections logged, Covid-19 active caseload close to 40k

Infection detected in 44.9 % of those that got tested in last 24 hours

KATHMANDU, JANUARY 18

The national active Covid-19 caseload of Nepal climbed to 39,044 on Tuesday as 8,730 people tested positive for the infection in past 24 hours.

Nepal recorded 8,730 new coronavirus infections in last 24 hours, pushing the nationwide tally to 868,215 while the death toll reached to 11,624 as one fatality was recorded today.

Meanwhile, the total coronavirus recoveries stand at 817,547 with 562 discharges logged today.

As per the latest data provided by the health ministry, a total of 22,828 tests were conducted in the last 24 hours of which 17,872 were PCR tests while 4,956 were antigen tests. With this, a total of 5,036,120 PCR tests have been carried out till date.

Similarly, antigen tests have confirmed 1,528 positive cases in the past 24 hours. The total number of single-day infections from both the RT-PCR and antigen tests totals to 10,258.

Nepal's Covid-19 recovery rate stands at 94.2%, while the fatality rate stands at 1.4%.

Currently, there are 100 individuals in various quarantine facilities across Nepal.

On Monday, Nepal had witnessed 5,747 cases of the COVID-19 infection while three persons had succumbed to the disease in the same peiod.
