CPN-US to oppose MCC

KATHMANDU, FEBRUARY 21

The Secretariat of the CPN-Unified Socialist Party has decided to vote against the Millennium Challenge Corporation's Nepal Compact.

CPN-US Spokesperson Jagannath Khatiwada said his party would also urge other parties to vote against the MCC compact.

This means CPN-US has sided with the CPN-Maoist Centre which had also decided to vote against the MCC compact that the government tabled in the House of Representatives on Sunday, seeking its ratification.

The United States, which will provide a grant of $500 million under the project, has served a deadline of February 28 to secure parliamentary ratification of the deal.
