President of Nepali Congress and Prime Minister Sher Bahadur Deuba, who has been firm on his stance to ratify the pact, has been engaging in back-to-back meetings with leaders of the coalition as well as opposition leaders to move ahead with parliamentary proceedings. PM Deuba's engagements have increased twofold since the past week as the deadline for MCC ratification is at the gates.
Meanwhile, anti-MCC protesters, including cadres of parties in government other than NC, have been staging protests in the capital streets on a daily basis, often clashing with security personnel, demanding that the deal be not made.
