KATHMANDU, MARCH 2
The ruling coalition members have said that they feel ashamed due to the prolonged House obstructions.
Talking to media following the meeting of the House of Representatives today, they argued that it was wrong to continue with the obstruction violating the legal provision that prevents the House from discussing a sub-judice issue at the court.
Referring to the main opposition CPN-UML which has long been protesting in the Parliament demanding resignation of the speaker and disqualification of the status of 14 lawmakers from the CPN (Unified Socialist) as HoR members, CPN (Unified Socialist) Chair and former prime minister Madhav Kumar Nepal urged the people concerned to exercise their conscience and let the House carry forward its business.
'This has provided ground for raising question about the commitments in favour of democracy, leading to the degradation of the image of the protesting party,' he said. He also claimed that the move would cost the party in the upcoming elections.
Janata Samajbadi Party-Nepal Federal Council Chair and former prime minister Baburam Bhattarai said, 'The House functioning this way and the House falling captive is unfortunate and I am ashamed of it. We, the people's representatives, come to attend the meeting, put our signatures on a register and leave after receiving allowance.
This is not good practice,' he said. He also urged the opposition to let the House run smoothly.
NC leader and Minister of Law, Justice and Parliamentary Affairs said attempts were being made to raise the sub-judice issue at Parliament. The seaker is drawing the attention of the main opposition towards the end of the situation, according to him.
It may be noted that the main opposition is unhappy with the speaker as he did not entertain the party's proposal disqualifying 14 members.
