Defending champions Army edge past Rolling

ITAHARI, APRIL 6

Defending champions Tribhuvan Army Football Club edged past Rolling Club 2-1 and advanced to the final of the 12th International Itahari Gold Cup here at the Itahari Stadium today.

Tek Bahadur Budhathoki and Santosh Tamang scored one goal each for the departmental team, while Ajayi Martins netted consolation goal for Rolling Club. Budhathoki was named the player of the match and he earned Rs 10,000.

After a goalless first half, Budhathoki put the A division outfit ahead in the 51st minute, while Tamang doubled the tally in the 90th minute. Martins reduced the deficit for Rolling Club in the injury time of the match and the goal turned out to be the consolation one.

TAFC had made it to the semi-finals with a 2-1 victory over hosts Rashtriya Jagriti Club, while Rolling outplayed Avenir Club of Cameroon 2-0 in the quarter-final match.

On Thursday, A division outfit Manang Marshyangdi Club will take on Sagarmatha Football Club of Morang in the second semi-final match of the tournament.

TAFC had defeated MMC to win the title in previous edition. A total of eight teams took part in the tournament organised by Rashtriya Jagriti Club.

The winners will receive Rs 700,000, while the runners-up will earn Rs 350,000.
