Tribhuvan Army Club defeated Rashtriya Jagriti Club 2-1 in the inaugural match of the 12th International Itahari Gold Cup here at the Itahari Stadium today.

Tek Bahadur Budhathoki and skipper Bharat Khawas scored one goal each to send the departmental team into the last four, while Bijay Bhujel replied for the home side. Khawas was named the player of the match and he earned Rs 10,000. Budhathoki opened the scoring for TAC in the 29th minute before Khawas doubled the tally in the 40th minute to go into the half time with a commanding lead. Bhujel reduced the deficit with a goal in the 69th minute but that turned out to be the consolation one for the home team.

Earlier, TAC dominated the first half and wasted a couple of chances, while the home side failed to create a single goal-threatening move before the break. Rashtriya Jagriti Club put up an improved show in the second half but poor finishing let the team down. On Sunday, Damak Gold Cup champions Manang Marshyangdi Club will take on Kanchenjingha Football Club of India. A total of eight teams including two from India are taking part in the tournament. Top two teams will receive Rs 700,000 and Rs 350,000 respectively. - HNS
