Local level staffer embezzles millions

A government employee of a rural municipality has embezzled millions of rupees in nexus with its chief. The money was collected from inland revenue in Siraha.

It has come to light that first class non-gazetted officer Mahendra Prasad Yadav of Bishnupur Rural Municipality embezzled Rs 3,423,790.

Out of Rs 527,077 collected from the Revenue Office in a year in the revenue department of the local level, Yadav had not deposited Rs 3,423,790 in the bank, said Chief Administrative Officer Dip Kumar Yadav. Dip Kumar said he had written to Mahendra Prasad to deposit the amount with 25 per cent fine 10 days ago. The money, however, has not been deposited in the bank so far.

Meanwhile, Mahendra Yadav admitted his mistake. He said that he had handed the money to chair of the rural municipality. ' I should have not have given the money to chair of the rural municipality Jageswor Yadav.

I gave the money due to his insistence. Now, I am in trouble,' he said.
