Congress, LSP win three wards in Rautahat district

RAUTAHAT, MAY 14

Nepali Congress has won two wards and Lokatantrik Samajbadi Party has secured victory in one ward so far in the local election in Rautahat.

As learnt, Nepali Congress's candidates Balram Raut and Pradumna Chaudhary have been elected as ward chairpersons in Chandrapur Municipality-1 and Durga Bhagawati Rural Municipality-1 respectively.

While Raut secured 2,010 votes to defeat his closest rival Biru Rakhal by over 800 votes, Chaudhary got 686 votes against 606 votes of his closest rival CPN-MC's Lalbabu Sah. This will be Chaudhary's second term as ward chair.

Similarly, Lokatantrik Samajbadi Party's Bigu Byas secured his victory as ward chairperson in Ishanath Municipality-1. Having secured 589 votes, Byas defeated his closes rival Jadolal Sah of Nepali Congress by around 250 votes. For Byas too, this will be second term in office.

Rautahat has 18 local levels, and voting is on in eight of them.

As to when vote count will start in other 10 local levels is uncertain.

Voting was disrupted and so cancelled at 16 voting centres in the district yesterday due to various unwanted activities.
