Youth dies in police firing

CPN-UML condemned the death of a youth in police firing at Sorungchhabise of Katari Municipality in Udayapur yesterday.
The youth died in the firing after a minor dispute ran high during the voting.
Issuing a statement today, party Chair Parameshwor Ghimire said that the issue had to be resolved without opening fire at the public. It was a misuse of power, reads the statement. UML has demanded to the state to bring the truth among the people and provide thecompensation to the deceased family.
A nineteen year old Nabin Katwal died due to a minor issue about the fake vote casting at a voting centre of Kalika Secondary School.
An eyewitness Gyan Magar said that the police opened a fire without warning while the ballot box was being snatched. District Secretary Laxman Poudel of Biplov led CPN said that his party cadre died in the police firing.
'There was need of opening fire just because people started pelting stones,' he said. A local Man Shrestha, 13, and police constable Bishnu Tamang were injured in the incident. They are receiving treatment in Katari Hospital, said police.
The Biplov led CPN and CPN-UML have claimed that the dispute occurred due to the Nepali Congress.
Meanwhile, Chief District Officer Birendra Yadav said that the incident occurred after the police opened the fire in self-defence when people started pelting stones at them.
The CDO led team headed towards the spot today and details will come out after the team returned, said police.
