RAUTAHAT, MAY 16

Re-election in the polling centres where voting was deferred due to various reasons is slated for Wednesday in Rautahat.

Polls were postponed in as many as 24 polling centres in the district over incidents of ballot box theft, vandalism, arson and the likes. As per the recently published schedule, polls for Wednesday are slated in eight polling stations in Baudhimai Municipality, five in Yamunamai Rural Municipality, and four each in Gadhimai Municipality and Fatuwa Bijayapur.

Similarly, two polling stations in Dewahi Gonahi Municipality and one in Garuda Municipality are also set to see re-election take place on Wednesday, according to District Election Office.

On Friday, elections had to be halted in Fatuwa Harshaha of Fatuwa Bijayapur Municipality after a dispute between two groups took an ugly turn.

Police had to fire shots in the air to take the situation under control.

Similarly, in Bhediyahi Secondary School polling centre of Yamunamai Rural Municipality, a group of locals had made off with ballot drop box, which had led to a halt in the election process.

Similarly, at other places, polls were disrupted over incidents of vandalism and arson.

Many have attributed the disruption to weak security management.

According to election office sources, Durga Bhagawati witnessed the most peaceful voting and vote counting.
