New bird species found in Chitwan

KATHMANDU, JUNE 08

A new species of bird has been found in Chitwan. According to Nepal Bird Experts Association Bagmati Chapter Chairperson Basu Bidari, the new species bird was detected at a paddy field in Khairahani municiplaity-11, Pidhani area.

Six days ago, member of Bird Education Society Sauraha Raju Tamang had taken a snapshot of the bird. After the detection of the bird, a team comprising bird specialist Dr Hem Sagar Baral had reached Chitwan.

According to Bidari, the bird was also detected on Tuesday. The experts' team said that the bird was Chinese Pond Heron. The bird is found in different countries, including China, India and Hong Kong. Bidari said the newly-found bird species is of shy nature.

With this, number of bird species has reached 891 in Nepal. Chitwan alone has 650 species of bird.
