Mayor, six others held for youngster's murder

Police have arrested seven persons, including mayor Ambika Chalaune of Panchdewal Municipality, in connection with the murder of a youngster, Kishor Shahi, of the same municipality.

Seven persons were nabbed for their alleged involvement in the killing of Binod Shahi. 'Seven persons, including Mayor Chalaune, have been nabbed in connection with Shahi's killing,' said DIG Mohan Kumar Acharya of Sudurpaschim Province Police Office.

Acharya said that five persons were arrested earlier while Chalaune and Netra Shahi were held today.

Likewise, District Police Office, Achham, said that an investigation into the incident had reached the final stage. 'Police will wrap up the probe and submit the report to the court shortly,' said police.

Binod Shahi was found dead on a cliff near his home on 4 June 2022. Shahi's family had registered an FIR with the police accusing 13 persons, including Mayor Chalaune, then chair of Ward No 4 Sadan Bahadur Shahi, Danmati Bam, of killing Shahi. Six more murder-accused are still absconding.
