KAATHMANDU: Santosh Sahukhala's extra time goal guided Nabil Three Star Club to the British Gurkha Cup final with a 2-1 win over Ranipokhari Corner Team (RCT) 2-1 here at the Dasharath Stadium today. In a 120-minute thriller, Bijaya Gurung headed home a long freekick from Sanjeev Budhathoki in the 74th minute before Deepak Rai levelled the scores four minutes later from the spot kick. In the injury time of the first half of extra time, Sahukhala converted a penalty to seal the match for Three Star. Three Star will now play the winner of Thursday's semi-final match between Manang Marshyangdi Club and Machhindra Football Club. Three Star coach Bal Gopal Maharjan said his team achieved what they had aimed for. "We started our campaign with a target to win the title and we are almost there,' said Maharjan. Maharjan, however, pointed out lapses in his midfield and forward. Three Star were on target in the second minute when a freekick from Anjan KC deflected off the bar to kiss the net but referee Surendra Sikhrakar ruled it as off side. Pradeep Maharjan's excellent grounded shot was then punched by RCT goalie Dilip Chhetri in the seventh minute. Three Star custodian Kiran Chemjong was in action foiling a powerful shot from Yogesh Gurung in the 18th minute. Defender Anjan then curved a free kick in the 21st minute but goalkeeper Chhetri denied him. Man-of-the-match Bijaya was all around briefly in the second half involving in three chances on goal. In the 64th minute he supplied to unmarked Santosh and the latter converted but the ball was ruled offside. Anjan KC made a long run on a counter attack and passed the ball to Bijaya but he missed in one-on-one with goalkeeper three minutes later. A minute later Anil Ojha's superb shot from 25 yards rebounded off the bar. Bijaya's hard work finally paid off after he smartly flicked a long freekick from Sanjeev. RCT goalie, who came across exposing the post, had no other option but to watch the ball pass him. But RCT equalised when Dipak Rai converted the spot kick, awarded after Bikash Singh Chhetri brought the midfielder down. Five minute from time, Uttam Gurung struck a powerful shot from the edge of the area but Chemjong made a brilliant save. Three Star skipper Pradeep Maharjan could have given his team the lead early in the extra time had he not missed on a one-on-one with RCT glovesman. Three Star search for the winner came in the dying moments of the first part of extra time. Raghu Prajapati brought down Sahukhala in the area and the forward himself converted the spot kick to seal the match for Three Star. Three Star goalie Chemjong proved his worth in the 24th minute of extra time denying an excellent shot from Yogesh Gurung. Despite the loss, RCT coach Madhu Karki appreciated the way his team played. "We don’t have stars in our team and yet we managed to give a tough challenge," said Karki.
