Minister for Energy, Water Resources and Irrigation Biraj Bhakta Shrestha has initiated an internal discussion on energy policy.
During the discussion, Minister Shrestha emphasized the development of the energy sector, along with structural and institutional reforms, increased energy consumption, and environmental conservation. He instructed officials to formulate an effective electricity policy based on comprehensive data analysis in the sector.
The Minister also highlighted the urgency of broader consultations with stakeholders on the policy draft. Issues such as quality energy supply, energy mix diversification, increased domestic consumption of electricity, climate change impacts, loss and damage, and carbon trading were identified as key considerations for the policy debate.
Minister Shrestha further underscored that the policy must be visionary, as it will serve as a guiding framework for future legislation in the energy sector.
